Not sure these forums are still active, but since this is where Jaysoncon was organized I thought it'd be a good place to reach folks I played with there! (I did the Tower of Gygax room with the fountains and skeletons and such).
I'm helping to create a new take on the classic fantasy roleplaying game, the Adventurer Conqueror King System, which is designed to offer support for all the activities characters pursue across the full range of campaign play, from inscribing the first spell into your spellbook to researching new spells named after yourself to building your own dungeon to make harvesting beast parts for your lab more convenient. It's a second-wave retroclone, which means it's devoted to creating a specific kind of old-school experience, rather than emulating a specific older edition like the first wave did (for which we are very grateful; we specifically build on Labyrinth Lord and Basic Fantasy RPG.)
The Kickstarter effort that's crowd-funding the illustration and layout of the ACKS rules has some rewards that I think are pretty cool. Depending on your level of support, you might get to:
- describe one of the illustrations that our artist will draw and include in the finished rules
- make a character that will be used as an example in the text and become part of the roster of pre-gen characters included in future adventures
- have a city in the game's implied setting named after you
All backers are also invited to a continuous four-day demo of the game we'll be running throughout Gen Con in the penthouse suite at one of the convention hotels. The Kickstarter campaign concludes on Saturday, but we'll also be signing up backers at the Old School Renaissance Group booth #1541. Come by and visit if you're at Gen Con, and if you know anyone who'd be interested in Adventurer Conqueror King, pass on the links – word of mouth is really important to us! (We already made the basic Kickstarter target, but are now gunning for the bonus target to publish our first supplement, Domains of War, which covers mass combat.)
