    Good show guys.

    Dating all the way back to the introduction of Non-Weapon Proficiencies I have always had a hard time understanding how people could think that if you don’t have it, you can’t do it.

    Was true then with 1e (sorry I don’t call it 1.5e haha), held true with 2e and still stands with what I have seen and heard in the 3-5e realms.

    I’ve been watching some actual play 5e videos, and so often I hear “Can I…?” Now that in itself it’s not necessarily an issue, especially when it’s coming from a new player. But it does happen a lot and it is, IMHO, especially a problem if it is followed up by the DM with “Do you have the skill?”
    Make a judgement call, determine the difficulty and give them the a shot at success (or partial success.) Or in other words, *make a ruling* and keep the game flowing.

    From early in the roll-out, I have viewed having a proficiency simply meaning that you were better at the given task and thus more likely to succeed then those that do not have the proficiency. To me, it does not mean that you *can’t* or *shouldn’t* even bother attempting it.

    I don’t know maybe I’m wrong, but to me it’s just common sense.
